Start with the date you need your photos.
If the photographs are for graduation announcements, work backward from when you want to send them. Leave time for editing, choosing photographs, and printing. Check the delivery information on my current pricing page when planning your date.
For a yearbook submission, ask your school about its deadline, required photographer, and image specifications first. A personal senior session may be separate from the school's official portrait requirements.
If you want cap-and-gown photographs, find out when you'll have them. You can plan your session around that date, or talk with me about options if you'd like your main senior portraits earlier.
Choose the background you want to live with.
Picture the photo you'll put on an announcement or hang at home. Beach portraits feel different from photographs among trees or in a garden. Pick a setting you like, then choose clothes that work there.
Gardens and wooded settings
If you'd rather have greenery behind you, we can talk about garden or park options near Port Orange. My Lake Woodruff senior session shows a wooded setting near DeLeon Springs. The Ormond Beach location guide also compares nearby settings and their access details.
Send me a place that means something to you, too. We'll check whether photography is allowed and how the location fits the session before deciding. Two locations need enough time for the drive, parking, and any outfit changes.
Bring clothes you can move in.
Try on the whole outfit before the session, including shoes. Sit down, walk around, and check how it feels. If you're uncomfortable in it at home, you'll probably notice that in the middle of taking photos too.
A casual outfit and a dressier option can give you variety if there's time to change. Plan a place to change with me ahead of time; an outdoor location may not have a convenient changing room.
- Bring your cap, gown, and any cords or stole you want photographed.
- Keep a brush, water, and comfortable walking shoes nearby.
- Tell me about a jersey, instrument, or other item you want to include so we can plan where to use it.
- Bring clothing on hangers when you can, especially anything that wrinkles easily.
You can send outfit photos before we meet. If you're deciding between two things, it helps to see them alongside your location ideas.
Leave time for changing and moving around.
A one-hour session can suit a straightforward plan in one area. If you want several outfits, more backgrounds, or time to work in a hobby, consider the two-hour option. Travel between locations uses some of that time.
Send me what you want to include before choosing. We'll work out which session makes sense. The pricing page has the current session options and explains what you receive.
A few questions before your senior session
What if I don't know how to pose?
That's fine. I'll help with where to stand, what to do with your hands, and small adjustments as we go. You can tell me what feels awkward and which photographs you like.
Can we include sports or other interests?
Yes. Tell me what you'd like to bring and whether it needs a particular setting. A uniform or instrument can be part of the session without being in every photograph.
What if the weather changes?
Talk through a backup with me while we're planning. Leave some flexibility before a printing or school deadline, especially if you're set on an outdoor location. We'll need to agree on any change to the date or location.
How do I book?
Send me your preferred dates, where you'd like to take photos, and when you need the finished gallery. Include outfit changes, cap-and-gown photos, or anything else you want to make time for.
